Genelab is a start-up biotechnology SME,  founded in 2004, whose administrative headquarters are based in Sicily,
a less-favored region  of the EU.

Genelab s.r.l born from the experience of a pool of young scientists   (molecular biologists, process biologists, engineers, economists, mathematics)  skilled in research fields of plant molecular biology of major crops (tomato, potato, wheat, maize) and new process development by exploitation of membrane filtration technologies at industrial level.

The aim of the company is furnish biotechnology services and solution in both fields (plant biology, membranes filtration processes) to subjects involved in research projects  or industrial partners interested to implement process and products innovation in their production.

microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis, are applied to treatment of industrial liquid wastes, especially from the agro industries aiming to pull down the pollution load and simultaneously fractionating, recovering and reusing high values compounds and water. Main tangential membrane filtration technologies methods are applied both at laboratory than in pilot scale and controls with analytical tecniques process performances.
Our main activities concern with:

• fractionation of whey milk and valorization of separated fractions (whey proteins, lactose, water)


• treatment of olive mill wastewater for the recovery of purified hydroxytyrosol, organic substances and water


• membrane filtration extraction and purification of molecules with biological activities from liquid extracts of organic wastes


• reverse osmosis desalinization and potabilization of sea water, high salt concentration waters


• paper mill wastewaters treatment and water reuse, raw paper deinking and water reuse with membrane technologies


• design of tangential filtration plant layouts (pilot and industrial scale)
  

Our Partnerships:

Actually Genelab is a partner in the EU-SOL project, for the construction of optimized silencing vectors, based on TRV and PVX and for the study of the efficiency of silencing and stability of the inserts in the various vectors and in various organs, including leaves, roots, tubers and fruits. These activities will be carried out from Genelab in close collaboration with C.R. ENEA (italian research institute for Health, environmental protection, energy). Genelab s.r.l. also collaborates with ENEA in a research project focused on bioactive peptides from whey and with SILAC s.r.l. an italian dairy industry in order to exploit whey compounds valorization, moreover the company is actually partner of a italian company MeTe s.r.l. italian manufacturer of membranes filtration plants.
